GRANDPARENT CAMP AT CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY

CAMP REGISTRATION | ONLINE PAYMENTS

Caring for ourselves, our animals, our planet

A day program for grandparents and grandchildren (8-12). Program runs Tuesday- Saturday, June 21- 26 (Arrival Monday – Departure Sunday).

Land cost: $1,200 for two family members (grandparent and child) sharing a room. $600 for additional adult or child. Deposits are due by April 1st and final payment by May 21st.
This fee includes, 5 nights lodging in a Chaminade University dorm room (double occupancy), the on campus program and materials, five field trips with entry fees, airport transfers, all breakfasts, 3 dinners and sack lunches on field trips.

Group Size: five to ten families

Participants will have a program at Chaminade University each morning and travel to various locations for field trips each day. One of the days will include an interactive, hands-on presentation by the Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai`i B.E.A.C.H, a non-profit, volunteer organization concerned with bringing awareness and solutions to the problem of marine debris and litter on Hawaii’s beaches. The field trip associated with this presentation will feature a beach service project designed to put the problem in perspective.

The campus based program will include activities and information that contribute to child and older adult wellness. Examples include age appropriate physical activities, brain fitness and nutrition information.

PROGRAM SITES

Program sites will be based on availability and could include:

Honolulu Zoo
Learn about the lives of the zoo's remarkable citizens during a Twilight Tour. It's a fun evening of education never experienced by day visitors. Tour will be led by the Zoo’s knowledgeable and friendly Education guides.

My Gal Sal’s Miniature Horses and Goats
This site features Magic the miniature horse. Magic is certified as a care animal and has been filmed by BBC...yes!...the British Broadcasting Company! BBC, did a day long documentary on Magic- both saddle riding kids, driving the cart, and at Kailua Beach -for the #1 children's program in Europe.

Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology
Includes a boat ride to Moku o Lo ‘e (Coconut Island), in Kaneohe Bay, Windward O`ahu for a docent-led tour of research facilities. The 1˝ to 2 hour walking tour provides an overview of some of the important research currently taking place at HIMB as well as an introduction to the natural and human history of the Island.

Service Project at Mokuaea Island

Mokauea Island is the site of O'ahu's last Hawaiian fishing village, and one of the only two left in Hawai'i where hundreds such villages thrived in pre-European times. We will paddle out to the island in outrigger canoes to help in the island restoration

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

A visit to one of the most spectacular natural resources in Hawaii will include its award-winning Marine Education Center and optional snorkeling. The Nature Center is dedicated to safeguarding the fragile marine life of the Bay and is reaping the benefits of over a decade of moves to re-establish its pristine marine ecosystem.
