The inspiration for Travel & Learn springs from my desire to bring all the elements of the things I love to do together and to share those experiences with others. The
"what I love" is travel, teaching and learning and making a positive difference in the lives of people. One magic ingredient I have found is to make sure that the generations
are working together; especially older adults with children and youth. The intergenerational "spin" is a key ingredient in the offerings presented by Travel & Learn. Study
tour revenues include donations to youth led non-profits and other efforts that help bridge the generations. In 2011, donations were given to Grand Circle Foundation,
UNA-Hawai`i among others.
In 2012, as we travel to Morocco and Japan, I invite individuals to join me in these pilot efforts. Travel will be an exploration in possibilities. Those interested should
bring a notepad, an analytical mind and a sense of adventure as we look at how to create intergenerational study tours and experiences with our youth led non-profit partners.
Come prepared to work.
Multi-city intergenerational study tours in partnership with Penn State University and Chaminade University will invite educators, researchers, policymakers and students to
Hawai`i in May 2012. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work to a global audience at the International Conference.
